Buddha Purnima: Gautam Buddha, Siddharth and History

Buddha Purnima

If seen from the Hindu calendar, Gautam Buddha was born on the full moon of the month of Vaishakh and the birth anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, is also celebrated on this day. It is also known Buddha Purnima and Buddha Jayanti.

In Puranas, Buddha is considered as the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, hence this day is considered very auspicious among Hindus as well. The festival of Buddha Purnima is celebrated with pomp not only in India but also in foreign countries.

Gautam Buddha was born in the world 6th century. Maya, the wife of Suddhodana of Kapilvastu, gave birth to a child in the forest named Lumbini. That child was named Siddhartha. Siddhartha's mother died a few days after introduction to the world his birth date. Then Mahamaya's sister Gautami brought him up.

Siddhartha was the son of a king, so he was brought up in royal luxury. He was married to Yashodhara at the age of just sixteen year old. Siddharth and Yashodhara also gave birth to a baby boy, who was fondly named Rahul.

Siddharth had all the comforts of enjoyment. He had many palaces. They had more than thousands of servants and maids and plenty of his entertainment. One day Siddhartha went out form palace for a walk. Then he saw an old man. His hair had turned white, there were wrinkles and fatigue on his face, his body had become weak, his back was bent. He could hardly walk. When Siddhartha saw this, he became sad.

Moving a little further, a debilitated individual was seen, who was at his last stage. He was struggling between life and death. At the point when Siddhartha went a little further, a coffin was going from that point. Four people are carrying the dead body on the shoulder, and "Ram Naam Satya Hai!" He is speaking, some people are also crying. Seeing all this, Siddharth got worried and surprised .

Siddharth began figuring to him that one day I will likewise age significantly and sick, then I will die. Got worried thinking like this. After this, Siddharth again found a monk on the way, on whose face a different brightness was clearly visible. The monk's mind was away from all illusions, there was a different shine on the lips. Siddharth understood the whole thing.

Siddhartha returned to his palace. He passed on all that and decided to turn into a priest. Furthermore, left his better half and infant child and went to the forest. He did severe penance for many years. At the time of around 35, Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree at Bodhgaya and became the Buddha. Siddhartha achieved illumination on the full moon day of Vaishakh month. That is the reason Buddhist devotees observe Vaishakh Purnima consistently as Buddha Purnima.
